HUUM HIVE Wood-Burning Sauna Stove (13kW / 17kW / 17 LS) | High Stone Capacity

The Premium Wood-Burning Sauna Stove Experience

The HUUM HIVE WOOD is more than just a heater; it is a modern tribute to the ancient traditions of Northern European sauna culture. Precision-crafted in Estonia, this wood-burning stove combines minimalist Nordic design with the robust performance required for a truly authentic "löyly" (steam) experience.

Superior Engineering for Unmatched Durability

While many wood stoves compromise on material thickness, the HIVE WOOD is built to endure. The flame tamer, the stove's most critical component, is forged from 5mm thick stainless steel. This industrial-grade construction ensures the unit can withstand the highest temperatures without warping, providing a reliable heart for your sauna for years to come.

The LS model of the HIVE wood-burning stove even allows heating the sauna from an adjacent room.

*Model 13 requires 6 boxes of stones*

*Model 17 requires 9 boxes of stones*

FAQs

General & Performance

What makes the HUUM HIVE WOOD different from other wood-burning stoves?

Unlike traditional boxy stoves, the HIVE WOOD features ahigh stone capacity (up to 287 lbs) and a minimalist "basket" design. This maximizes the stone-to-air contact and minimizes exposed hot metal. The result is a higher concentration of negative ions and a legendary, soft steam known as "löyly" that doesn't feel "sharp" or scorching.

How long does it take to heat a sauna with the HIVE WOOD?

On average, the HIVE WOOD heats a properly insulated sauna by approximately 10°F every 8 minutes. Expect your sauna to reach optimal temperatures ($160°F–190°F$) within 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the ambient outdoor temperature and wood quality.

Can the HUUM HIVE WOOD be used for off-grid saunas?

Yes. Because it requires no electricity, it is the premier choice for remote cabins, lakeside retreats, and off-grid backyard saunas. It provides total independence while maintaining a high-end, luxury aesthetic.

Sizing & Models

Which model should I choose: HIVE Wood 13, 17, or 17 LS?

Selection depends on your sauna's interior volume:

  • HIVE Wood 13: Best for smaller, intimate saunas (212–459 cu. ft.).

  • HIVE Wood 17: Ideal for medium to large family saunas (283–565 cu. ft.).

  • HIVE Wood 17 LS: Features afirebox extension (LS stands forLäbi Seina or "through-the-wall"). This allows you to stoke the fire from an adjacent room or outside, keeping the sauna room clean and ash-free.

Does the HIVE WOOD come with stones?

No, stones are sold separately to allow for shipping flexibility. TheModel 13 requires6 boxes of stones, while theModel 17/17 LS requires9 boxes. We recommend using rounded olivine diabase stones for the best heat retention and airflow.

Installation & Safety

What are the chimney requirements for this stove?

The HIVE WOOD uses a standard 4.5" (115 mm) flue diameter. You will need a dedicated chimney kit (through-wall or through-ceiling). We recommend a professional installation to ensure local fire codes and clearance requirements are met.

Can I install the HIVE WOOD on a wooden floor?

You must use a Protective Beding or a non-combustible floor protector if installing on a wooden or combustible surface. This prevents heat damage and protects against stray embers when loading wood.

How do I stack the stones in a HUUM heater?

Stack stones loosely to allow for natural air convection. Place larger stones at the bottom and outer edges to support the weight, and use smaller stones to fill gaps. Avoid packing them too tightly, as this can restrict airflow and potentially damage the stainless steel frame over time.

Maintenance & Durability

How durable is the firebox?

The HIVE WOOD is built for longevity. The flame tamer, which is the part most exposed to direct fire, is made from 5mm thick stainless steel. This is significantly thicker than many competitors, preventing warping and ensuring the stove lasts for decades of regular use.

What kind of maintenance does the stove require?

  • Empty the ashtray: Before every session to ensure proper airflow.

  • Clean the glass: Use a damp cloth and a bit of wood ash to keep the viewing window clear.

  • Inspect stones: Once a year, remove and re-stack your stones. Replace any that have become brittle or cracked to maintain optimal steam quality.
